Depew board keeps battery storage law public hearing open for further revision

The Village of Depew Board of Trustees voted unanimously on March 23 to keep the public hearing on a proposed battery storage system local law open so the draft can be revised and incorporate feedback from building and code enforcement.
Deputy Mayor Adolph moved to allow the public hearing to remain open, saying staff wanted more time to revise the draft and ‘‘hear the constructive criticism’’ before any law took effect. Village counsel Sam said he received edits from the building and code enforcement department and from another municipality and recommended incorporating those changes. ‘‘I think we need to incorporate all of that and further revise the draft, and it should be ready for the next board meeting,’’ Sam said.
Trustees voted by roll call to keep the hearing open; the motion carried. No formal changes to the draft were adopted at the meeting; trustees said staff will prepare a revised version for future consideration.
What this means: the public hearing remains active and the board will not adopt a battery storage local law until staff and counsel present an updated draft at a later meeting. The board did not set a specific date for the law’s return to the agenda.
