Planning commission approves alcohol-distribution permit for ABS Wholesale at 13533 Alondra Boulevard

The Santa Fe Springs Planning Commission approved an alcohol‑sales conditional use permit (ASUP 92) on March 16 to allow ABS Wholesale Inc. to operate an alcohol beverage distribution facility at 13533 Alondra Boulevard. The commission adopted Resolution 315-2026 by a 5-0 roll call and announced a 14‑day appeal period.

Associate Planner Alejandro de Loera told the commission the proposal is for a business‑to‑business distributor operating from a 1,752‑square‑foot tenant space within a 3.43‑acre industrial parcel in the M‑2 heavy manufacturing zone. De Loera said the operation would not include retail sales, would be limited to Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., employ approximately one to three people on site, and receive deliveries only by medium‑duty trucks. He recommended the commission find the project categorically exempt from CEQA under Section 15301 (existing facilities) and approve the ASUP subject to conditions, including a requirement that the applicant obtain any required approvals from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control within one year and submit a security plan to Police and Community Services (condition No. 9).

A representative of the applicant, who identified themselves as the property operator, praised city staff and said site maintenance and security measures are in place, noting, “We’ve got 24 hour security cameras.” Planning staff also noted that public notice was mailed to property owners within 500 feet and published on March 6 in the Los Cerritos Community newspaper; no written public comments were received for this hearing.

After a brief exchange about process and the ongoing zoning code update, a motion to approve the permit and adopt Resolution 315-2026 passed 5-0. The approval includes the conditions listed in the resolution and the requirement that the applicant secure any necessary ABC licensing within a year before the use is finalized. The commission recorded a 14‑day appeal period for the action.

The commission’s action preserves an in‑city business and allows a relocation of a previously permitted distributor, subject to the resolution’s conditions. The permit allows importation, storage and wholesale distribution (ABC license types described in staff materials) but not on‑site retail sales; deliveries are limited by condition to medium‑duty trucks.
