Oscoda County assistant prosecutor to retire; board eyes shared replacement with Crawford County

Assistant Prosecutor Brendan Curran has submitted notice of his intent to retire effective Sept. 30, 2025, and the Oscoda County Board of Commissioners discussed options to fill the position at their July 8 meeting.
County officials said preliminary conversations favor replacing the position through a shared arrangement with Crawford County, with an anticipated workload and cost split of 60% Crawford and 40% Oscoda. Under the plan discussed, wages and benefits would be paid by the partnering county and the two counties would share financial liability on a 60/40 basis; the board said a formal agreement would be required before hiring.
No formal motion to create the agreement was recorded on July 8. Commissioners characterized the discussions as preliminary and said they will return with more details when an intergovernmental agreement is ready for consideration.
