Hingham School Committee approves France student trip and accretion of interventionist into HEA Unit B

Student trip to France: French teacher Alec Porter (speaker 9) described an established exchange with a partner school near Toulouse and outlined an April 2027 itinerary that would include several days in Paris, a train to southwestern France and homestays with host families. Assistant Superintendent Bridal Pollard (speaker 3) said the trip promoter offers no financial aid but that Hingham High maintains scholarship funds, including a Global Citizenship travel scholarship, to help make participation feasible for students who need support.
Committee member (speaker 2) moved to approve the student trip; the motion passed by voice vote. The committee extended well wishes to the organizers and students.
Accretion of interventionist into HEA Unit B (MOA): The superintendent (speaker 5) presented a memorandum of agreement to accrete the interventionist role into HEA Unit B, describing contract language changes relating to conference time, common planning, training, sick‑leave bank integration, a separate seniority list for interventionists, and the school day/work year. A committee member (speaker 2) moved to accept the MOA covering the period from Sept. 1, 2026, to August 2027; the motion carried following members’ votes.
Executive session: A committee member moved to adjourn to executive session to approve prior executive session minutes and to discuss strategy with respect to collective bargaining or litigation; the chair declared that an open meeting could be detrimental to the public body’s bargaining or litigating position and the committee took a roll call vote to adjourn to executive session.
