Westmont board approves zoning entitlements for new south fire station

The Westmont Village Board approved zoning entitlements March 19 for a proposed south fire station spanning multiple parcels at and near 6015 South Cass Avenue. The request included a comprehensive-plan map amendment, rezoning to the Public & Institutional (PI) district, consolidation of several lots into one, a variance related to generator size/fuel/location, and approval of a major site plan.
Director Henterfein described the parcel consolidation and said the generator would be sited and landscaped to reduce noise. A project representative (Deputy Chief) said the generator is designed with sound-attenuation features and that planned landscaping should limit neighbor impacts; trustees asked whether fencing could be added later if testing revealed noise issues.
Trustee Guzzo moved the entitlements package and Trustee Little seconded. After questions from trustees about fencing and testing frequency, the board approved the entitlements by roll call.
Next steps: staff will continue design refinement, coordinate required site improvements, and follow the conditions of the approvals during permitting and construction.
