Utah Division of Wildlife presents $2.41 PILT check and Lake Powell boat‑check briefing

Representatives of the Utah Division of Wildlife visited the Kane County commission on April 14 to deliver a Payment in Lieu of Taxes check and to brief the commission on Lake Powell recreation and boat‑check operations.
Dax Mangus (speaker 7), the new regional supervisor for the division's southern region, presented a symbolic PILT check for $2.41 and introduced himself, noting staff changes in district biologist positions and offering contact information for county questions. "I wanted to come out and make the trip rather than just mail a check," Mangus said.
Dan Keller (speaker 8), Lake Powell project leader, described the Highway 89 boat‑check station that inspects boats returning from Lake Powell to prevent spread of invasive aquatic species and noted that several local hires staff the check station. Keller said Lake Powell's elevation is about 3,528 feet and that use of removable metal ramp extensions has allowed continued access despite falling levels. "Once it drops about 5 or 6 more feet... they'll start using these boiler plates," he said, referencing metal ramp extensions used in prior low‑water years.
The commission thanked the Division of Wildlife for attending in person; no action was required beyond accepting the report.
