The Chester Public School Board recorded several unanimous votes during its regular business meeting.
Consent agenda: The board adopted the consent agenda, which included the agenda, minutes, bills, monthly finance report, facility usage, policy revisions and the SPED annual plan. The chair announced the motion was made by Miss Harris and seconded by Dr. Tedrow, and the board voted in favor.
Scholarships: Miss Burrow moved to approve the disbursement of $67,300 in scholarships to the 2026 John Hanley High School graduates from the Cooper Armstrong Shingle and Pooled Scholarship funds; the motion was seconded and approved.
Budget amendment: Following a budget presentation, board member Rothermel moved to amend the FY27 budget to include funding for one gifted teacher (an approximately $90,000 addition); Miss Burrow seconded and the amendment carried unanimously.
Salary scales: The board approved FY27 salary scales tied to the newly approved budget so contracts could be issued without delay. After those votes the board convened in closed session under the Code of Virginia to discuss personnel matters.
No public commenters spoke during the public‑comment period.
Recorded next steps: the superintendent will incorporate the amendment into the final FY27 request to the city for appropriation, and the board will return to public session following closed‑session deliberations.
