Chair (S1) told the meeting that Cameron County received a $50,000 challenge grant from the Mead Foundation to support the recreation center renovation project and moved to submit a letter committing to a $50,000 match. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
"I think that before this moves forward for transparency, it's important to note that Cliff and I have been talking about and already reached out to other funders to match this and start to bridge the gap for that $50,000," Chair (S1) said, emphasizing the county is seeking external matching donors so the county may not have to supply the full match from its budget.
Separately, the board approved payment to ACS of $22,343.26 from Act 13 funds to provide network updates and equipment for the recreation center and Memorial Hall. Chair (S1) said the funds will support free public access to the internet, conferencing systems for a shared workspace and "also a private telehealth space for the community to utilize." The item was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The motions recorded at the meeting were limited to approving the commitment letter and the ACS payment; the transcript includes no formal vote tallies. The chair and multiple participants discussed pursuing DCNR feasibility grants and other foundation support to plan and potentially implement capital improvements such as resurfacing courts or installing covered courts.
