At its meeting, the Escalon City Council recognized Officer Abraham Palomino as officer of the year and Brandon Gunter as rookie of the year, citing high arrest and citation numbers and community policing work.
The Escalon City Council presented its police department awards on Monday, recognizing Officer Abraham Palomino as officer of the year and Brandon Gunter as rookie of the year. The chief said Palomino “led the department in stats” and noted that both officers have demonstrated strong community policing efforts.
The awards followed a brief presentation outlining each officer’s service. The chief said Palomino began as a reserve in April 2023 and was appointed full time in December 2023. Palomino has since served as a field training officer and was described as “intelligent, hardworking, and ... a great attitude.” The chief said the department created an officer-of-the-year award and that Palomino was its first recipient for 2024.
Brandon Gunter was named rookie of the year after entering the department in February 2025 and completing field training. The chief said Gunther “quickly established himself as a gifted investigator” and noted the pair’s high activity levels in arrests and reports.
Both officers spoke briefly to thank the council and the community. One officer said, “Just wanna say thank you to everybody. The team effort for sure,” while the other said, “I love working for the city of Escalon. I enjoy coming to work every day.”
The council and attendees praised the officers’ visibility in the community and encouraged continued community policing efforts. No formal action was required beyond the recognition.
