The Gila County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 20 authorized the chairman to sign quick‑claim deeds for 24 properties sold through an online public surplus auction held Dec. 1–15, 2025. Charlotte, speaking for Public Surplus, said the auction collected $99,751.43; after applying liens, interest, penalties and costs, the net amount above lien values was $45,690.88.
The board also approved contract CTR076526‑GC1 with BWS Architects Inc. for architectural and engineering services for the Pleasant Valley Veterans Retreat design phase, in a not‑to‑exceed amount of $250,144 for the period Jan. 6–April 14, 2026. County staff said the $250,144 will be paid from an existing $3 million allocation for the veterans retreat; "this 250,000 is part of the 3,000,000 that we've been given," the chair said during discussion. Staff noted a separate $333,000 congressionally directed grant is earmarked for the ADA cabin.
Board members asked whether retained counsel had reviewed the contract; retained counsel confirmed prior review related to Pleasant Valley matters. The motions to authorize the chairman's signature on deeds and to approve the contract passed on voice votes.
What this means: the auction proceeds will be apportioned per statute among taxing jurisdictions and, after costs, returned to dispossessed owners where applicable. The approved design contract funds planning and cost estimating so the county can pursue subsequent procurement and construction phases when funding is available.
Next steps: staff will record deeds and proceed with the architectural design process and return to the board for additional approvals as the design and funding choices evolve.
