Eloy residents urge deeper review of proposed FreePoint recycling plant, cite air and traffic worries

During the board’s call to the public on March 4, Lenora Noble, a retired teacher and Eloy resident, urged supervisors to thoroughly investigate FreePoint — the company proposed for a large recycling/chemical facility in the Loy Industrial Park — and to extend the public comment period so more neighbors can be heard.

Noble said neighbors are worried about heavy truck and trailer traffic leading to the construction site, 24/7 noise once operations begin, and air pollution from particulate emissions and smokestack releases that could affect playgrounds and children. "Please investigate FreePoint as a business," she said, noting prior complaints and delayed corrective actions at other FreePoint locations. She asked the board to "do a deep dive on issues to find out about their safety and air quality guidelines" and recommended extending the comment period by another month so residents can raise questions and the company can respond.

Several speakers during public comment also urged transparency and more community outreach around large industrial proposals; the board did not take a permit vote on the record during the March 4 meeting. Noble asked supervisors to ensure permitting decisions include robust neighborhood engagement and careful review of any prior compliance issues FreePoint may have had.

What’s next: Noble requested an extension of the comment period and additional engagement; supervisors heard the remarks during call to the public and noted community concern would be considered alongside the formal permitting process.
