The Loveland City Council approved a resolution to appoint Jennifer Egley as presiding municipal judge by unanimous roll call vote at a special meeting.
Council members commended Egley’s enthusiasm, ethical approach and attention to data during her interview. Councilor Black said Egley’s "energy, passion and research skills" would help create an effective municipal court, and Councilor Foley recommended onboarding support from the former municipal judge to help her transition to the bench.
During public comment, Linda Rosa questioned the salary levels that would accompany the three recent appointments and asked why a municipal judge would be compensated above what she said is the Colorado Supreme Court chief justice’s salary. Councilor Krenning responded on the record to correct misinformation about the chief justice’s salary, noting a figure of $214,000 cited for context and saying the council would provide additional information.
Egley addressed the council, saying municipal court serves the community by holding people accountable while ensuring fairness and dignity for those who appear before the court. "The court provides a place where every person who comes before [it] is treated with fairness and dignity and respect," she said.
The resolution passed by unanimous vote. The meeting did not include detailed compensation figures in the motion; councilors said they would provide additional information to address public concerns.
