During call to the public on March 10, several Lake Havasu City residents raised concerns about a neighbor’s surveillance cameras capturing private-yard activity and said repeated police responses had not resolved the issue.
Sheila Walker (speaker 27) told the council she had a neighbor recording conversations and interactions in her yard and that a recent hearing had been dismissed. "It was dismissed," Walker said, and asked why the city lacked an ordinance to protect residents from that kind of intrusion. Sharon Knapp (speaker 6) gave similar testimony, saying her neighbor’s cameras cover multiple angles of her yard and that officers had frequently responded without effective remedies.
Speakers urged the council to consider local ordinance options, clearer enforcement pathways, or referral to civil remedies; staff did not propose an immediate ordinance at the meeting but the complaints were entered into the public record for follow-up. The city clerk accepted written submissions for the record.
What’s next: Staff indicated residents may pursue civil remedies and the council will have the record of complaints; council did not direct immediate ordinance drafting at this session.
