Greeley County approves One-&-Six-Year Road Plan, lowers speed on 806th Road and awards bridge contract

Greeley County moved forward on several road and bridge actions during 2024, approving the One-&-Six-Year Road Improvement Plan, adopting a reduced speed limit on a short segment of 806th Road because of sight-distance concerns, authorizing a budget amendment for road fund overages, and awarding a replacement contract for structure C003901305 over Fish Creek.
At the June 25 meeting Highway Superintendent Lance Harter presented the One-&-Six-Year Road Plan and a speed study for 806th Road (between 498th and 500th avenues). After public comment and engineering analysis the board adopted the plan and passed Resolution 2024-4, reducing the speed limit on the defined segment to 35 mph due to substandard sight distance on crest-and-sag curves.
To cover completed bridge work and other overages, the board held a July 1 public hearing and approved a budget amendment to appropriate $175,000 from the county cash reserve to the Road Fund. Later in the fall the county solicited bids and accepted a low bid from Kokes Construction ($107,000) to replace structure C003901305; the board awarded and approved the contract.
Commissioners said the changes respond to engineering recommendations and fiscal realities after a series of bridge projects and gravel/roadwork. The board recorded public testimony at the speed-limit hearing from adjacent landowners who raised safety concerns for children and equipment in the right-of-way.
