The Clark Board of Education on March 31 held a "Showcase of Success" to honor teachers, educational support professionals and student-achievement teams across the district.
Superintendent Grandy and principals introduced individual award recipients from Arthur L. Johnson High School, Compton Middle School, Henley School, Valley Road School and the district preschool. Tara Oliveira, Arthur L. Johnson principal, presented Freddie Reyes as the school's educator of the year, praising his 27 years in social studies and noting he pursued a specialized Holocaust studies certification and helped secure multiple grants and student museum trips. "He has found something different, renewed energy and purpose," Oliveira said.
Amanda Clark, principal at Carl H. Compton Middle School, presented Joe Rodriguez with the Governor's Educator of the Year award, citing more than two decades of science teaching and leadership roles including Science Olympiad coaching and participation on district committees. Shirley Bergen of Frankie Henley School honored teacher Cindy Turello and educational support professional Denise Lipari for leadership in STEM, curriculum work and interventions following the pandemic. Valley Road principal Joseph Beltranpa recognized art teacher Carrie Kennedy and paraprofessional Kathy Fady for curriculum innovation and sustained community engagement.
The board also recognized the Compton Middle School Science Olympiad team for placing second regionally and finishing 10th at the state competition, noting the students prepared outside school hours and received certificates of recognition from coaches and staff. Grandy closed the segment with district updates and thanks to booster clubs and volunteers.
The showcase concluded with a group photo and the board moved into the regular agenda.
