West Jefferson approves downtown metal pinecone public art; greenlights cemetery plot purchases and planning appointment

The West Jefferson Board of Aldermen approved a proposal from local business owners to install decorative metal pinecones around downtown and carried several smaller administrative items at its Feb. 2 meeting.
Kelly Vannoy presented a plan to place metal pinecones fabricated by a high school or community college welding department, with materials paid for by the business association and placement advised by Thompsons Nursery. Alderman Blanco moved to proceed and Alderwoman Beth Shelton seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Separately, the board approved cemetery plot purchases for Martha Kincaid and Mary McLaurin and appointed Jeren Holman to the planning board to fill an expired term. All motions were approved without discussion.
The board expressed appreciation for town staff and emergency personnel for their recent winter response and welcomed the newly sworn Alderman David Miller.
