SD U-46 reports progress on 2026–27 boundary transition; transportation routes move toward finalization

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Annette Acevedo told the School District U-46 Board on April 13 that transition activities for boundary changes are underway across schools and that staff are shifting from planning into implementation for the 2026–27 school year.
"At this stage in our work, we are seeing transition activities actively underway across the district," Acevedo said, outlining kindergarten registration, middle-school shadow days and spring events designed to help students and families prepare for new school assignments.
Acevedo reported that 66% of known kindergarten students (730 of 1,099) had already registered, which administrators said positions the district well as it continues outreach. The board was told elementary and middle schools are hosting events to build connections for incoming students and families.
Transportation Director Marcy Murphy detailed the district's move to a three-tier transportation framework intended to improve on-time performance and maximize resource use. She said routes are being developed in new routing software, with staff validating stop locations, timing accuracy and ride-time balance. "This new system is more efficient," Murphy said, and route information will be shared with families via Infinite Campus.
Murphy and Acevedo said safety and driver staffing remain priorities and that the district plans monthly updates to track progress, with an enrollment snapshot and staffing report scheduled for May.
What happens next: administration will finalize route planning, continue family communications, and present further implementation updates in May and June.
