Golf-course renovations, equipment purchases face higher bids; some work may be deferred

Staff reported robust golf activity in March but said bids for tee reconstruction and some equipment purchases were higher than anticipated, prompting scope adjustments and possible deferral.
"350 golfers took advantage of several warm days in March, pushing revenues to 53% of their budget," the staff member said, noting senior membership and permanent tee-time sales exceeded budget expectations. Prepaid permanent tee-time program reserves were said to be "over 300,000" and a favorable sign for operations.
On capital work, staff described a $225,000 request for driving-range tee renovation and said bids for first-tee reconstruction were substantially above expectations. Board members and staff discussed the potential to sharpen the contract scope, have club staff complete some tasks, and defer certain reconstruction items to 2027 in order to reduce near-term expenditures.
Staff also noted that used equipment sourcing this year has been difficult; where equipment is commonly sourced used, prices and availability have not met expectations, which is affecting procurement timing and budget readiness.
The board did not take final action on the golf projects at the meeting; staff will return with refined scopes and budget implications as part of the CIP process.
