Summary
After a public hearing, the council unanimously approved Resolution 26-1810 to apply for an estimated $510,000 in FY26 Community Development Block Grant funds to renovate the Pinetop Lakeside Community Center; NACOG will finalize allocations and staff will obtain detailed quotes.
Pinetop Lakeside town leaders unanimously voted to submit an application for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to renovate the town’s community center.
Town Manager Christy told the council that, following a Feb. 26 public input process, the town received three CDBG applications and that only the community center renovation met the program’s requirement that a project benefit at least 51% low-to-moderate-income residents. "Staff recommends the council move forward with approving the community center renovation," Christy said during the public hearing. The council then adopted Resolution 26-1810 authorizing submission of the FY26 CDBG application.
The staff estimate discussed in the hearing placed the project at just over $510,000; Christy said the town still needs "accurate quotes" and that NACOG must confirm the town’s final allocation. The resolution certified that the proposed project meets the town’s identified housing and community development needs and authorized the actions necessary to implement the application.
Vice Mayor moved the resolution and the motion carried unanimously; the transcript records the outcome as "carries unanimously," but individual roll-call vote counts were not recorded in the meeting transcript. Next steps noted at the meeting include obtaining final cost estimates and completing required documentation with NACOG before the grant submission is finalized.
The council did not receive public comment during the hearing before it was closed by the mayor.
