The clerk of Modesto City Schools called the district's regular board meeting to order on Dec. 16, 2024, confirmed a quorum and announced that the board would convene into closed session.
The clerk said, "This meeting is now called to order," and then conducted roll call, naming Trustees Brown, Daley, Lopez, Marks and Mejia as well as Vice President Maestas and President Non Lehi Irvin; the transcript indicates each responded as present, and the clerk stated that a quorum was present. The transcript records the roll-call responses but does not assign those responses to separate transcript voices.
The clerk described the district's public-comment procedure for closed-session items: public comment on closed-session items would be received before the board entered closed session, and comments submitted by email or voicemail after the agenda was posted but before noon on the day of the meeting would not be read aloud. The clerk said those emailed or voiced comments "have been transcribed and printed with copies provided to each board member and the public" and that they "will also be attached to the board meeting minutes that are approved at a future board meeting." The clerk then asked for raised hands from anyone wishing to speak on closed-session items; none indicated they wished to speak.
Following the procedural announcements and roll call, the clerk stated that the board would convene into closed session.
