A public commenter urged the Los Angeles Unified School District to press state leaders and the superintendent during the upcoming budget season to ensure that state revenues flow to districts for instruction and personnel.
"It's time to get there to make sure that the money is not squirreled into a 120 different legislators' pockets," the commenter said, arguing districts and labor partners should work between January and May to pursue funding, including a full cost-of-living adjustment. The commenter referenced an imminent Legislative Analyst's Office revenue assessment and said that outcome will shape the governor's budget.
The commenter also praised recent board debate on alternative assessments and said the board should be mindful of schools that operate off the state dashboard, including charters and continuation or virtual programs. The remarks noted the need to balance high standards with greater thoughtfulness for schools with different missions and student populations.
The Clerk closed the public comment period after attempts to connect several remote callers, who were either not online or unable to unmute, and the meeting recessed to closed session on labor negotiations.
