The Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education convened a special meeting Nov. 17, 2025, to receive limited public comment and then recess to a closed session to consult with labor negotiators, the Clerk announced.
At 1:36 p.m. the Clerk opened the meeting and said the meeting’s single closed-session item was "conference labor negotiators pursuant to Government Code section 54957.6," with Dr. Murphy identified as the district negotiator. The Clerk listed employee organizations the district expected to address in closed session, including Associated Administrators of Los Angeles; Teamsters Local 2010; California School Employees Association; Los Angeles County Building and Construction Trades Council; Los Angeles School Police Association and its management association; SEIU Local 99; Teamsters; United Teachers Los Angeles; and district-represented employees and contract management personnel.
The Clerk recessed the public portion of the meeting at 1:41 p.m. for the closed session. The meeting later reconvened at 4:28 p.m., when the Clerk stated that Board President Schmirelson, Miss Newbill, Dr. Rivas and Mr. Melvoin were present and that the board had quorum. The Clerk reported "I have nothing to report out." With no objections, the Clerk adjourned the meeting.
Because the discussion took place in closed session under the cited statute, the public record contains only the agenda description, the negotiator's name and the list of affected employee organizations; no further substantive details about the negotiations were released during the open meeting.
