Cameron County approves contract, procurement and policy updates including CYS legal services

Cameron County commissioners on April 2 approved a set of administrative actions including a contract for Children & Youth Services (CYS) legal representation, a procurement for senior-center storage, and a revised county vehicle policy.
The board approved a purchase-of-service agreement between CYS and attorney Edwin W. Tompkins III, effective July 1, 2026. The agreement raises the established rate by $600 annually; county officials said the county’s share is 20 percent of the increased cost, which they calculated as $120 per year to the county. Commissioner James moved approval and the board carried the motion by voice vote.
Separately, under recommendation from Cliff Clark (economic and development director), commissioners approved purchase of a storage shed for the Driftwood Senior Center from Jefferson’s Sheds of Brockway for the lowest quoted price of $6,145, to be paid from already approved block grant funds.
The board also accepted an updated county vehicle use and safety policy, which staff, with solicitor review, brought forward as part of a cycle of regular policy updates. Chair Jessica thanked staff member Annette for preparing the revisions.
All three measures were approved by voice vote. County staff will complete contract paperwork, process procurement invoices and publish the updated policy.
