Lee County school leaders present draft SPLOST projects and revenue estimate ahead of May 2026 vote

Director (S2) told the board that the district has prepared a draft SPLOST project list to present to voters in May 2026. The board was reminded this would be a continuation of the current 1% SPLOST and that the draft list is being posted to the district website for public feedback.
Staff said the draft list was developed through multiple focus groups with community members, staff, students and parents. Director (S2) highlighted capital needs on the draft list, including replacing HVAC units at Lee County High School (the units date to 1992) with an estimated replacement cost of about $5,000,000, CTAE classroom renovations and expansions, band-equipment replacement and replacement of buses that in some cases are more than 20 years old.
Director (S2) said November SPLOST collections totaled $456,788.84 and described anticipated total collections for the continuation as above $30 million, pending final calculations. Staff emphasized the list will be presented in alphabetical order for public review and is not yet prioritized.
No formal action to place a SPLOST referendum on the ballot was taken; the item was presented for public input as the draft list is finalized.
