Lee County schools, county to sign MOU for firefighter certification pathway for rising seniors

"Tonight, we will sign a memorandum of understanding that will connect the school district with the county to begin our very first pathway for firefighter certification beginning in the 2026–27 school year," Director (S2) said, announcing the program the board will sign and the county leaders who helped arrange instruction and facilities.
District staff said the initial cohort will be limited to about 15 rising seniors in the 2026–27 school year; students who meet age (turning 18 by graduation) and certification requirements would graduate with firefighting certification. Director (S2) credited Cole Williams and county partners for helping assemble instructional support and facilities.
Board members did not take a formal vote on the MOU at this meeting; the announcement was presented as an informational milestone and participants were invited to the podium for a ceremonial signing.
Next steps identified by staff include finalizing the MOU language and implementing the pathway for the 2026–27 academic year.
