Kelly Duke, senior director of 6–12 learning and leadership, told the Lee County Board of Education on Dec. 8 that the district’s Cognia accreditation engagement review concluded with the district being awarded accreditation with merit.
The district “scored a perfect score of 4 out of 4 points in every area of the self assessment and analysis process,” Duke said, and earned an index of education quality (IEQ) score of 3.45, which staff said is 48 points above the Cognia network average. Duke said the district’s averages for the four Cognia key characteristics — culture of learning, leadership for learning, engagement of learning and growth in learning — were all at or above the network averages.
The presentation emphasized data use, leadership development and collaborative practices as district strengths. Duke also flagged areas for targeted growth, saying the review recommended focusing on monitoring student engagement and improving student goal-setting practices.
Director (S2) and board members praised the work of staff who compiled evidence for the review; Director (S2) singled out Leslie Reese for organizing materials the team used to support the accreditation submission. The board was told the district will move next to the Georgia Accreditation Commission in February for further steps.
The accreditation status and the Cognia report were presented as informational items; no board action was required during the meeting.
