On April 9 the Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners approved Resolution No. 25-04-02 to adopt the Shiawassee County 2024 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP).
Commissioner Haley moved the adoption and Commissioner Howard seconded; the motion passed by a recorded vote of 7-0. The resolution states the LHMP was developed cooperatively with participating local jurisdictions, complies with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 and FEMA guidance, and sets actions and strategies to reduce risk from hazards including floods and severe storms.
The resolution designates the LHMP as a guiding document for decisions on planning, development, ordinances and funding related to hazard mitigation and commits adopting jurisdictions to revise the plan as necessary to reflect changing hazards, laws and priorities. Adoption preserves or confirms eligibility for federal mitigation grant programs tied to DMA 2000 compliance.
