Manti council adopts unified construction standards for utilities and roads

The Manti City Council voted on April 15 to adopt a consolidated set of construction standards for new development and infrastructure projects. City staff presented the standards, which include design drawings, specifications and technical details for roadways, water, sewer, storm drainage and electrical installations.
A staff presenter told the council the standards establish a uniform specification that anyone developing a subdivision or performing city water projects can use. "We need a formal adoption by the council," a staff member said prior to the motion.
Council member Jan Christiansen made the motion to adopt the Manti City Construction Standards; the motion was seconded and the mayor announced the motion passed. The council did not modify the text at the meeting and directed staff to publish the adopted standards and make the documents available to builders and developers.
The adopted standards are intended to reduce design variability, clarify expectations for contractors and support consistent infrastructure construction across the city. Staff said they had reviewed the draft with public works staff and other reviewers and expected the standards to streamline permitting and construction reviews going forward.
The council also conducted routine business (monthly financial summary and other continuing business) and then moved to a closed session to discuss property purchase/sale and litigation.
