The Columbus County Board of Education on April 14 approved the recommended vendor for the district's Chromebook purchase.
Staff reported that 13 vendors submitted proposals and recommended Vision 21 Solutions LLC as the lowest responsive bidder for 1,077 Lenovo Chromebooks at a price of $325,372.55. Staff noted the district did not order Chromebooks the prior year because of a surplus purchase in 2024 and described annual replacement planning to avoid large lump‑sum spend years.
During discussion staff said the district previously ordered 1,240 units from RackCentra and expects annual replacement numbers to fluctuate depending on damage and replacement needs; they also noted device costs have risen 12%–31% in recent years when accounting for Google licensing. The board approved the purchase by voice vote.
