The Oscoda County Board of Commissioners handled a range of administrative and budget matters at its Aug. 12, 2025 meeting, approving health appropriations, personnel acknowledgments, travel authorization and several small contracts and budget amendments.
Health appropriation: The board authorized a request to increase Oscoda County's 2025 appropriation to District Health Department #2 by up to 10% but not to exceed $64,200, with payments to be made quarterly from the Health/Welfare District #2 Health Dept budget line (Handrich/Bondar motion; roll call unanimous). The minutes list the amount limit and the funding line (101.600.835.00).
EMS staffing: The board acknowledged several contingent EMT hires, each at a starting wage of $17.30 per hour and not eligible for county benefits. The hires acknowledged were Dillan Romstadt (start July 30, 2025), Brittany Decker (start Aug. 4, 2025), Carrie Warren (start Aug. 4, 2025), Tavia Ineson (start Aug. 5, 2025), Courtney Eaves (start Aug. 6, 2025) and Danielle Reetz (start Aug. 7, 2025). Each hire was approved by separate motions, each recorded as carried in the minutes.
Personnel and appointments: The board authorized attendance at the MERS Annual Conference (Oct. 16–17, 2025) for County Administrator Michelle Knepp, Clerk/Register of Deeds Libby Marsh and Treasurer William Kendall. The board also acknowledged the hiring of John Nelson as a full-time Maintenance Technician at $17.80 per hour and revised committee appointments to place Michelle Knepp on the 211 Northeast MI Board of Directors and the Health Services Council Committee, replacing Commissioner Breaugh.
Grants, contracts and purchases: The board reviewed and authorized the Fiscal Year 2024–25 HMEP grant agreement (Oct. 1, 2024–Sept. 30, 2025) and authorized the chair to sign. It accepted sealed bids for county vehicles (2006 Ford Expedition awarded to Richard Raymond for $600; 2003 Chevrolet Blazer awarded to Timothy Whiting for $755.55). The board approved a $2,400 quote from The Tree Surgeon for tree removal at the Dennis Kauffman Memorial Airport and a $2,000 appropriation to Community Mediation Services for 2025; both actions were recorded as motions carried.
