Beardstown council files routine financial reports, ambulance statistics and park permit

Beardstown — At its June 18 meeting the Beardstown City Council filed routine financial reports, heard ambulance statistics for Beardstown and Virginia, and granted a park permit.
City Clerk Brian Ruch presented May 2024 cash receipts of $1,100,803.50 and cash disbursements of $1,166,929.88. The City Treasurer listed balances including a General Fund combined checking balance of $3,048,676.70 and Special Revenue Funds totaling $3,168,288.59. Overtime and part-time payroll totals for May were provided by department (Ambulance $28,861.78; Fire $5,485.18; Police $11,045.82; Public Works/Cemetery/City Hall $20,052.68).
Ambulance reports: Beardstown recorded 55 calls in May with total charges of $61,888.00 and collections of $31,097.72; Virginia recorded 26 calls with $30,074.00 in charges and $22,382.51 in collections. The council approved routine reports under the Omnibus Vote Designation.
The council also approved a request from Casa De Las Naciones Church to use Art Zeeck Park on July 27, 2024. Mayor Tim Harris reported repairs to the Bley Building on Main Street are showing progress. Alderwoman Dawn Seward urged the council to consider stricter enforcement for unmowed lots, recommending tickets instead of a second warning for repeat offenders; no formal policy change was moved at the meeting.
