Morgan Consul, the district’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction, presented the Homewood School District 153 literacy plan at the board meeting.
Consul said the district used grant funds to send staff to professional development (PD) through ISC4 and attended planning sessions that informed the district plan. "The plan focuses on three areas: students, educators, and leaders," Consul said, and the work is aligned with the Illinois literacy plan and its seven pillars of reading. Consul said the district intends to use data to drive instruction and will reconvene next year to make the plan actionable.
Consul also noted the state is developing a numeracy plan and that the district will continue to align local work with state guidance.
The presentation was given during the agenda item for schoolwide plans and was followed by routine board business.
