The Simi Valley Unified Board approved acceptance of donations totaling $45,093.87 to support classroom supplies, library books and extracurricular programs across district schools. Trustee James read the donor list during the meeting; gifts included PTA contributions, donations to robotics and theater programs, a $4,357.20 donation to pay a coaching stipend, and subscriptions for elementary learning platforms.
On facilities, trustees authorized advertising a request for qualifications (RFQ) for studio management services after the district's current studio manager announced retirement. Staff told the board the studio has been net positive in prior years and that outreach includes working with the Simi Valley Film Commission. The motion to advertise the RFQ passed on roll call.
Staff also reviewed lease-leaseback procurement history for Royal High School modernization and the Simi Valley High School MPR/classroom building. The district previously selected Balfour Beatty Construction LLC as the lease-leaseback contractor and sought a final guaranteed maximum price pending DSA approvals and plan checks. Trustees discussed leveraging local film and production partners during recruitment for studio management.
