Maywood board adopts dual‑paper approach for legal notices

Maywood, Ill. — The Village Attorney presented a memorandum on legal‑notice publication options on Jan. 15 and the board voted to follow a mixed publication approach.

Attorney Michael Jurusik outlined three options to accommodate requests from the Village Free Press while complying with Illinois court guidance: (1) publish tax levy and budget public notices in a major paper such as the Chicago Tribune or Sun‑Times; (2) publish zoning and less critical public hearings in a local paper such as Village Free Press; or (3) publish all village legal notices in both the local paper and a major paper. Trustees voted to use a combination of a major paper (Chicago Tribune or Chicago Sun‑Times) and a local paper such as Village Free Press for legal notices.

Trustees framed the motion as following the attorney’s recommendation to preserve legal sufficiency while maintaining local notice. The motion carried with all trustees present voting in favor except Trustee R. Rivers, who was absent.

What happens next: Staff will implement the mixed‑publication approach and use major and local outlets as appropriate for specified notice types.
