Trustees voted to authorize Police Department Proposal No. 2: purchase of a 2013 Ford Taurus from Payless Auto Sales for $8,000 and $3,500 to outfit the car with lights, siren, radio and computer‑equipment installation, for a total of $11,500, and approved a waiver to purchase the vehicle from Payless. The motion carried with Mayor Edwenna Perkins and Trustees H. Yarbrough, I. Brandon, A. Sanchez, K. Wellington and M. Lightford voting yes; Trustee R. Rivers was absent.
The police report also noted progress on regional dispatch consolidation in Broadview. No formal policy changes were made at the meeting; the vehicle purchase was authorized for the Gang and Narcotics Tactical Unit and will be equipped by Chicago Communication, according to staff.
What happens next: The department will proceed with the purchase and equipment installation under the authorized waiver. Trustees did not set further public hearings on policing strategy at this meeting.
