Putnam County approves Calvary Life Center pool partnership and renames Rotary Park for Danny Martinez

Putnam County commissioners on April 14 approved two items meant to expand recreation and community programming.
Partnership with Calvary Life Center: County staff presented a memorandum of understanding with Calvary Life Center to use an indoor junior‑Olympic pool in town to expand swim lessons, lap swim and community programs. Under the MOU, Calvary Life Center would maintain the facility and handle chemicals and facility upkeep; the county would provide programming and staffing for swim lessons and public access. Staff said there is no cost for facility use and that the county would still be responsible for programming costs such as lifeguards. Commissioners said the partnership could double swim lesson capacity and improve safety for a part of the county that is underserved by indoor pool access. The board approved the MOU by voice vote.
Park renaming: Rotary Club requested the county rename Rotary Park to Danny Martinez Park in recognition of a longtime Rotary contributor who supported park improvements. Commissioners praised Martinez’s community contributions and approved the renaming unanimously.
Outcome: MOU executed for county programming at Calvary Life Center pool (no facility cost) and Rotary Park renamed Danny Martinez Park; staff to implement operational details and monitor staffing needs for expanded swim programming.
