Hardin County renews genealogical society lease; court approves $5,000 museum budget amendment

The Hardin County Commissioners Court on Tuesday authorized the county judge to execute a lease renewal with the Hardin County Genealogical Society for office space at 830 Maple Street and approved a contingent fiscal-year-2026 budget amendment to provide $5,000 for the Hardin County Historical Museum’s increased utilities and building maintenance costs.
Jay McKim III, chairman of the Hardin County Historical Commission, provided figures and met with commissioners before the vote. The chair told McKim the lease will become effective May 1 and that the county will begin covering repairs and utilities that the genealogical society had been paying. "The amount is going to increase by $500 per month," the chair said while describing the lease changes. Commissioners approved the authorization and the accompanying budget amendment.
The $5,000 budget amendment transfers contingency funds into three new line items for museum expenditures, including utilities and building maintenance; the court said the amendment is contingent upon final lease execution and will be reflected in the minutes and county financials.
