Consultants present ordinance rewrite schedule as commission discusses wind and solar rules

Consultants Jennifer M. Gooss of Donovan & Kaffar, PLLP and Jennifer Malloy of Apex Engineering Group introduced themselves to the Mercer County Planning Commission on Feb. 20 and presented a proposed schedule to rewrite county zoning and development ordinances.
The consultants handed out a proposed schedule and the commission discussed potential extra meetings, the format of the rewrite, checklists for staff and applicants, updating building permits and the fee schedule, and how specific ordinances should be and enforced. Commissioners raised particular interest in wind and solar ordinance language during the discussion. The record shows no formal vote on ordinance changes; the consultants will proceed with the proposed rewrite process and return with drafts per the schedule they distributed.
Commissioner Casey Voigt noted the county earlier lifted an ore moratorium at the county commission meeting, an administrative detail mentioned during the discussion. The commission also approved a scheduling change for 2025, moving the Oct. 16 meeting to Oct. 23. The meeting adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
