Planning director: Harbor RV park largely in compliance; staff hires and new projects announced

The Planning Department’s director briefed the commission on March 10 about letters alleging the Harbor District failed to complete public-access improvements at an RV park near Surfers Beach. Staff performed a site visit with the harbor master and concluded the Harbor District is largely in compliance with permit conditions, though some requirements are outdated and signage and public-access improvements could be built out further. The director said one minor reporting violation (a required annual RV-usage report) remains outstanding and the district was allowed additional time to submit it.
The director also said the department hired an associate planner and an assistant planner to fill two vacancies and will reopen recruitment for a senior planner after an internal staffing change. Staff noted progress on a fence-extension recommendation from a prior meeting—property owners permitted extending the fence to Belleville—and previewed upcoming projects that will come before the commission, including a storage-unit project at 925 San Mateo Road and a proposed Verizon tower on Carter Hill.
The commission did not take formal action on these items; the director offered to place the Harbor District compliance matter on a future agenda if the commission wishes further review.
