Board authorizes staff contracts, opens negotiations with teachers' union and certifies election results

The Fort Atkinson School Board authorized issuance of individual employment contracts for certified staff for the 2026-27 school year, gave staff authority to begin collective-bargaining negotiations with the Fort Atkinson Education Association (FIA), and certified the recent school board election results.

The board approved a resolution to issue contracts and additional contract days for certified staff; staff said contracts would be distributed and must be returned by June 15. The board then approved a separate resolution to open base-wage negotiations with the FIA; the action authorizes administration and bargaining teams to begin discussions but does not set contract terms.

In a routine action, staff reported the canvass of the April 7, 2026 school-board election held on April 13 and announced the results: Corey Nickram received 2,276 votes and Amy Amato Reynolds received 1,975 votes and were reelected; Shavon Bowen received 1,949 votes. The two winners' three-year terms will begin 04/27/2026.

All motions described above were approved by the board during the meeting. No contract terms were negotiated or ratified at this session; the vote authorized staff to proceed with the next steps required for contract issuance and for opening formal bargaining with the certified bargaining unit.
