Dr. Martin Castro summarized personnel items, telling the committee, "So tonight, we will have 2 teacher resignations," and named Nathan, a high-school math teacher relocating for a residency program, and Melissa, a McArthur kindergarten teacher relocating closer to home. He said Melissa had been with the district about three years and Nathan about four to five years.
Dr. Castro also announced a limited-term contract for Katie Stell to teach seventh-grade science at Kennedy Middle School through the fourth quarter while the district conducts a search for a permanent replacement.
The meeting turned to a tentative districtwide staffing plan for 2026–27 focused on the music department. Administration and music staff explained FTE calculations, travel-time accounting for teachers who serve multiple buildings and how section counts affect staffing levels. The committee heard that elementary music FTE was calculated at about 2.97 (rounded to three positions), middle-school music at about 3.4 (with travel-time adjustments), and no significant change at the high school.
Committee members and administrators discussed a social-media post that republished committee packet materials and caused community worry. The Chair said the post "caused a small panic within our community," and board members and staff emphasized the staffing plan was preliminary and that no reductions were being implemented at the meeting. The committee voted to forward the tentative K–12 music staffing plan to the full board with a positive recommendation.
