The Beach Haven Borough Council approved most items on its consent agenda at the final 2024 meeting but removed employment agreements (item 2/28) for separate review after a council member said supporting documents arrived in pieces and she did not have time to examine them.
Council member Colleen asked that the employment agreements be deferred because some data arrived late; she said she received additional information late Friday and that she needed time to review contracts and related details. “I would just like to have a look everything over and push this to the... next official meeting,” Colleen said, noting several employees and department contracts were involved and that the agreements as written are set to take effect Jan. 1. Colleagues said retroactive approval is possible and asked that questions be submitted to staff in the interim.
The motion to approve the remaining consent items was made and seconded and passed on the record. The consent agenda included appointments and administrative items: appointing Adam Ellinger as emergency management officer; appointing Sharon Bowler as tax collector and reappointing her as chief financial officer; approving membership to the Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Company; appointing Stacy Kerr as municipal magistrate; hiring Karen Garcia as court administrator and approving an employment agreement; budget transfers; and authorization not to exceed $49,861.08 for a skid steer track loader for Public Works. The clerk read the resolutions into the record.
The clerk presented the bill list totaling $209,400.85 and the council moved, seconded and unanimously approved payment of the bills.
No final action was taken on the employment agreements at the meeting; council members agreed to place the matter on the next regular meeting (the 13th) for possible retroactive approval and asked staff to supply the outstanding documentation.
The meeting closed with brief public remarks, council members’ final comments for the year and recognition of local musician Nick Giardelli.
