Egg Harbor Township board elects Lou Dela Barca president, names Juanita Hyman vice president and approves annual appointments

Lou Dela Barca was elected president of the Egg Harbor Township Board of Education at the board’s reorganizational meeting on Jan. 3, the board announced after a roll‑call vote.

The vote followed nominations that included Barbara Salagi and Dela Barca. After the tally the presiding official announced "5 votes for Mr. Delbarca" and congratulated him on his election. The board then took nominations and a subsequent roll call to elect Juanita Hyman as vice president; the chair announced Hyman received five votes.

The newly elected president thanked outgoing leaders and colleagues, praised district administrators and staff and said the board is committed to supporting students. "I just get to run meetings and serve as your representative," the president said, thanking former leaders and welcoming new and returning members.

The board approved its annual appointments (agenda items 9.1–9.11) by roll call. A motion to approve the slate of annual appointments was made, seconded and passed; roll‑call responses recorded affirmative votes from the members present.

The board also approved annual designations for items listed as 10.1–10.4 by motion and roll call and discussed committee appointments and a January retreat; the president asked members to submit committee preferences by the following Tuesday.

During public comment, Lakisha Hyman introduced herself as a parent of district students, congratulated the board on the new leadership and asked to be included in parent committees. The board closed the meeting after a final adjournment vote.

The meeting record included routine procedural items such as certification of election results and administration of the oath of office to newly elected members.
