Summary
County staff told commissioners they are consolidating records, are currently out of shred bins, will run public shred events and coordinate department-by-department pickups, and plan a pilot to mark boxes for shredding or disposal.
A county staff member told the Beaver County Board of Commissioners that county records are being moved to a single location and that departments should contact staff to schedule disposal or shredding of materials.
"At this time, we are absolutely 110% out of shred bins," the staff member said, urging offices to coordinate with the county's schedule for public shred events and district justice office requests. The staff member said nonconfidential material can be routed to a 15-yard paper box for direct shipment to a paper mill, which the county expects will yield a rebate.
The law department proposed a pilot to mark boxes to indicate whether material should be shredded or disposed; staff asked that an office representative be present during shredding to ensure proper designation. Logistics discussed included palleting materials, truck scheduling, and coordinating with HR when needed.
Staff said they would meet departments individually to schedule pickups and shredding and reiterated that confidential and nonconfidential items require different handling.
