Board selects EEI for mold remediation project after testing finds decay in building envelope

After reporting mold and structural rot in part of the school building, the board approved EEI (Energy Efficiency Investments) to support remediation, financing and contractor coordination for the project.
Facilities staff reported building testing that showed low mold levels in some sections but concerning mold and rot in the '56' side of the building, including damaged sills, rotten plywood and compromised sheathing. The facilities lead recommended removal of stonework in that section and structural remediation.
Facilities staff explained the RFQ process; two firms presented qualifications and the board voted to proceed with Energy Efficiency Investments (EEI) to oversee the package from financing to contractor coordination. Facilities staff said the firm would assist with financing structure, identify contractors, and help manage remedial work.
John (facilities) described the findings: "The mold testing all came back good in the 19 90 section. The gym came back very low. The 56 side of the building did not come back so good...we removed some trim, found some bad sills and a couple of floor joists, and there's a lot of plywood rot." The motion to contract with EEI carried in open session.
Next steps: Facilities will return with EEI recommendations and a remediation plan, including timeline and budget estimates; the board will be asked to authorize specific scopes and funding.
