Adelanto's City Council on June 26 accepted a $300,000 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant from the Federal Highway Administration to fund a safety action plan that the city must complete to pursue infrastructure funding. The council approved staff's recommendation to accept the grant and authorized execution of the grant agreement.
Saba, the city's grant writer, told the council the Safe Streets grant will support a safety action plan "to develop a well defined strategy to prevent road fatalities and serious injuries within the city," and emphasized the plan will prioritize streets and infrastructure from a safety perspective.
Separately, the city manager announced Assemblyman Juan Carrillo had authorized $1,000,000 toward Adelanto projects; staff said $500,000 is earmarked for rehabilitation of the council chambers (including display of a soccer trophy presented earlier in the meeting) and $500,000 is allocated for design work on a new park on Bellflower Road between Chamberlain and Lee Street.
Council members thanked staff for pursuing grants; staff said the Safe Streets grant agreement must be executed before work begins and that completion of the safety action plan will be presented to the council and used to seek future funding cycles.
Council approved accepting the SS4A grant by voice vote. Councilmembers also expressed appreciation for the assemblymember's support and said the funding will be directed toward the stated projects.
