Board approves series of 2026–27 rehires and establishes PIR/PDW advisory committee

The Coastal Public Schools Board voted to approve several personnel motions including extracurricular hires and rehires for the 2026–27 school year and established a planning committee for next year’s professional development schedule.

Committee member (speaker 7) moved to approve a slate of extracurricular hires presented by staff, including Brianna Croft as CHS close‑up sponsor and Bernie Sherritt as district science fair lead; the board approved the grouped hires by motion and second. Staff member (speaker 2) also presented recommendations to rehire non‑affiliated and classified staff (examples cited in the meeting included Rebecca Hopkins and other listed rehires), and trustees voted in the affirmative to approve those rehires as presented.

During the same meeting staff asked the board to form a PIR/PDW advisory committee composed of one teacher from each building, one special‑education teacher, two administrators, a board member and the superintendent or designee to plan professional development and in‑service days. Committee member (speaker 7) moved to nominate Francis Alta Cruz to serve on that advisory committee; the motion was seconded and approved.

Why it matters: The approvals set staffing and extracurricular leadership for the coming school year and start formal planning for professional development. Several votes were recorded as voice votes with trustees indicating "Aye." The motions were presented as routine approvals of staff recommended by district administrators.
