Public health officials propose selling COVID-funded shed, moving unused vaccines and training clinic staff

Sherlie Hains, representing Garfield County Public Health, told the Board of Commissioners on March 4 that the county could sell a shed purchased with COVID funds but any proceeds must be returned to the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) fund. Hains also recommended transporting unused vaccines to other towns that would use them rather than letting vaccines go unused in-county.
Mega McDonald raised planning for the annual October Health Fair and the challenge of securing a nurse to staff the event. Health administration Krista Wright presented proposed policy updates for the county clinic and proposed sending a clinic nurse to X-Ray Tech training estimated at $1,500 for a 4'5-day course. Wright said some clinic processes were not being followed and that administration would address compliance concerns.
The Board of Health will meet with the commissioners next week to follow up on these public-health items. No formal motions or budget votes on these health items were recorded during the meeting.
