The Garfield County Board of Commissioners on March 4 accepted the Insurance Board's recommendation to remain on the MACo HealthCare Trust's 4000 and 6000 medical plans and to add a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) option for employees. The recommendation was presented by Jennifer Crawford and other Insurance Board members and approved by motion from Commissioner Jerry Collins, seconded by Vice-Chair Carla McWilliams. All members voted in favor.
County staff and Insurance Board representatives noted upcoming rate changes and enrollment details tied to the renewal for July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. Materials provided with the recommendation show a 10.0% medical rate increase for the coming plan year and county contribution amounts reflecting an update from $1,134 to $1,247 for the county contribution logic. The county indicated it will include an HRA option and continue offering medical, dental and vision contributions consistent with MACo HCT materials.
Commissioners heard the recommendation from Jennifer Crawford alongside comments from Steve Mothershead, Charlotte Herbold, Charlie Saylor and Tasha Powell. No formal dissent was recorded; the board's motion to accept the recommendation carried unanimously. The decision maintains the current plan structure while adding an HRA choice intended to give employees another way to manage out'of'pocket medical costs.
The county will complete required enrollment and signatory steps with MACo HCT ahead of the March 13 deadline noted in the plan materials. The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for March 11, 2026.
