Staff provided updates on the annual 916 Day volunteer program and asked commissioners to identify potential event sites, sponsors and district contacts. The staff presenter said site walks are underway in several districts, sponsors have been identified for outreach and staff request three weeks’ notice for maintenance (L and L) support for events.
Vice Chair Robbins asked whether breweries are expected to provide monetary sponsorships or volunteer staff; staff said sponsorships can be monetary or volunteer labor and confirmed donor gifts go through the city’s "gifts to share" account. Staff said events that are volunteer-led and registered with city staff can use the 916 Day logo.
In a separate staff report, department highlights for March included summer program registration opening, a free spring carnival April 25, an older-adult resource fair May 8, and park ranger statistics: 996 calls for service in March, 145 rapid-response calls, seven major cleanups, seven hours of special event coverage and 185 park permits.
Ending: Both the 916 Day update and the department highlights were received and discussed; staff asked commissioners to share sponsor contacts and to coordinate schedules.
